Coronavirus Update

It is with a heavy heart that we announce Dr. Shafi will be retiring this summer. Central Jersey Orthopaedic Specialists is now reopened and Dr. Shafi will see both his recent post-surgical and long term patients in the office over the next few weeks with extra safety precautions. Please call when you arrive and enter with a mask.  More updates to follow as we start the process to help with transition of care.

Our practice is devoted exclusively to the medical and surgical care of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system – the muscles, bones and joints that make up the body’s skeletal framework. The word Orthopaedic (modern spelling orthopedic) comes from the Greek meaning “child straightening”, because the specialty originally dealt with such childhood deformities as polio and rickets. At the turn of the 20th century, orthopedists began treating adult disorders and fractures as well.

Orthopedists and orthopedic surgeons are the same specialists. The word ‘surgeon’ does not mean you will need an operation; most orthopedic problems are treated without surgery.

Doctor Shafi has been trained in major U.S. university medical centers, is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Doctor Shafi has been faculty at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School from 1975 – 2000.

Doctor Shafi maintain privileges at JFK Medical Center in Edison. We also perform same day surgical procedures.

Our office is also staffed by a licensed registered nurse, a licensed radiographer and a licensed physical therapist and is equipped with modern X-ray equipment and onsite physical therapy.
